It's back! Taxpayers' Month 2022 is here.

The Taxpayers' Month (TPM) is not a new concept. The initiative started 16 years ago, in 2003, when KRA held its first Taxpayers’ Day that was later followed by the first Taxpayers’ Week in 2004.

The Taxpayers' Week became an annual activity and was expanded to an entire month in 2015, when KRA’s Transformation Agenda began. The rationale then was to dedicate a day or week for KRA to give back to society in appreciation of its support.

The overall objective of TPM 2022 is appreciating the role of the taxpayer in the country’s economic development.

Theme:

The theme of this year’s Taxpayers Month is “Leaving No One Behind”.

This theme projects the importance of shared nationhood and pulling together as a citizenry in determining the country’s destiny, including in matters taxation. It calls for support from all stakeholders in championing and realising our revenue administration agenda.

At this year's launch event, Kenyans can expect the unveiling of a web based television (TV) station dubbed “KRA TV”. The station is envisioned to enhance tax literacy in the country through dissemination of simplified tax and Customs content. This is aimed at enhancing voluntary tax compliance and propelling the tax base in the country.

The “KRA TV” platform will be hosted on KRA website and drive a demand-based viewership. The station will host customized tax content that the public may consume at their convenience. The key features on the Tv will include: Scheduled live programming of tax awareness activities like Tax Talks, Tax Thursdays, Stori za Ushuru and other education programs. The TV station will also air a wide range of simplified and downloadable content for various taxpayer categories among the many other programmes.

Every year, KRA joins corporate bodies world over to mark the Customer Service Week (CSWeek), a week-long initiative dedicated to strengthening and cementing the essentials of customer experience. This year's theme, "Celebrate Service", aptly resonates with the changing face of service delivery within the organisation. CSWeek 2022 will be marked from  3rd to 7th October 2022.

Another key highlight of the month is the 8th Annual Tax Summit to be held on 12-13 October 2022. This is the third virtual conference of the COVID-19 era and the 8th edition overall. The Summit brings together actors from various Tax Administrations, as well as other key stakeholders (private sector, policy experts, think tanks, academia, media and civil society) to deliberate on solutions for various tax challenges affecting Africa tax administrations.

This year’s theme is “Now & Beyond: Enhanced Service Delivery to Improve Tax Compliance.”
