Implementation of the 2022 Harmonized System & the 2022 East African Community Common External Tariff

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) would like to draw the attention of taxpayers and the general public to recent changes in the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) and the East African Community Common External Tariff (EAC CET).

The 2017 version of the HS and EAC CET have been amended by incorporating specific changes recommended and adopted by Member States of the World Customs Organisation. The amendments include the introduction of new Headings and Sub-Headings, deletion of some existing Headings and Sub-Headings, and creation of some new Chapter Notes. Further, some existing commodity codes in the EAC CET have also been split as agreed by the East African Community (EAC) Partner states. These amendments have resulted in HS 2022 version and EAC CET 2022 version, which will come into force on 1st July, 2022.

Therefore, Kenya Revenue Authority wishes to notify taxpayers and the general public that the HS 2022 and EAC CET 2022 will come into effect on 1st July, 2022.
