Kenya Revenue Authority wishes to inform manufactures and importers of excisable goods listed in the first schedule to the Excise Duty Act that they are required to obtain an excise license from the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes.
Manufacturers and importers of excisable goods are encouraged to apply for the license through iTax web portal. The requirements for licensing are available on our website www.kra.go.ke.
Kindly note that persons found manufacturing or importing excisable goods without a license shall be prosecuted and shall on conviction be liable to a penalty equal to
double the excise duty that would be payable if the person was licensed or five million shillings whichever is higher and any plant, excisable goods or any materials in relation to the offence shall be liable to forfeiture and shall be destroyed at the offenders cost.
Further, retailers and distributers found distributing or selling goods manufactured or imported by unlicensed persons shall also be prosecuted and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding five million shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years and any plant, excisable goods or any materials in relation to the offence shall be liable to forfeiture and shall be destroyed at the offenders cost.
