The issuance of PIN has been fully automated following the successful launch of electronic registration services with effect from 30th March 2009. Manual processing of PIN was discontinued with the old PIN certificate being replaced with a new one that specifies the tax obligations for which a taxpayer qualifies to be registered. Consequently issuance of multiple tax registration numbers has been discontinued and replaced with a generic PIN certificate.
Since inception, Dec 2008 – February 200, over 524,575 new taxpayers have registered in the new system while 53,105 taxpayers have filed their monthly VAT returns electronically by February 2010. Plans are underway to ensure that taxpayers will be enabled to file returns for all taxes online by end of March 2010.
Phase 1 of the project is therefore considered successfully developed and implemented. The focus will then shift to implementation of Phase II of the project. Procurement process for the same has commenced and the consultants are expected to be on board by June 2010. In addition a fully operational Business Automation Office has been established within Domestic Taxes Department to ensure smooth review of the business processes for the eleven modules of phase 2. Publicity and training for all Phase I modules in use is on going. Taxpayers are encouraged to use the available online services and seek for support by contacting KRA Call Centre on 020 4999999.
