Submission of Monthly Tax Returns

Kenya Revenue Authority would like to clarify the procedure for submission of returns, with effect from 1st April, 2007as follows:

  • Taxpayers will lodge their payment documents and the amount due to the Banks as has been the case in the past.
  • The Banks will receive the payments, stamp copies of the documents in acknowledgement.
  • The Banks will retain only the duplicate copy of P11 form in respect of Pay As You Earn.
  • The Banks will retain only the lower portion of the original document in respect of Value Added Tax (VAT); Kenya Bureau of Standards Levy (KEBS); Sugar Development Levy (SDL) and Excise Duty Domestic.
  • The taxpayers will submit the original copy of each return to KRA and retain the book copies.
  • Returns may be submitted to KRA offices or Posta Kenya Offices countrywide.

Arrangements have been made for returns to be received at designated counters at Posta Kenya Offices countrywide.

Posta Kenya will acknowledge receipt of all copies by date-stamping them including the book copy with original copies being forwarded to KRA.

Please note that Stamp Duty and Annual Income Tax Returns Payments and Documents are not affected by this change and their processing remains as before.

Taxpayers are advised to make tax payments and submit returns on or before the Due Dates to avoid penalties.

For clarifications, please contact the Returns Processing Section on Ext. 2815168.
