Appreciation

Kenya Revenue Authority wishes to thank the general public and more specifically taxpayers who took advantage of the TAX AMNESTY for the very good response.

The public response to the TAX AMNESTY announced by the Minister of Finance on the Budget Day on 10th June, 2004 was overwhelming. The minister will soon be announcing the amount of revenue collected between 11th June, 2004 and 31st December 2004 as soon as the figures are compiled.

Opportunity for waiver - penalties, interest, additional tax and fines

Under the revenue laws The Minister fo Finance and KRA have powers to waive penalties, interest, additional tax and fines.

In recognition of the response demonstrated by the public and considering that a number of tax payers may have failed to take advantage of the tax amnesty for one reason or another, KRA and the Minister of Finance will exercise those powers in the following circumstances:

  • Where voluntary disclosure is made and principal taxes or duties are paind from 1st January to 15th January 2005, 95% of the penalties, interest, additional tax and fines will be waived.
  • Likewise where voluntary disclosure is made and principal tax or duties are paid from 16th to 31st of January 2005, 90% of the penalties, interest, additional tax and fines will be waived.
  • Any Payment after the 31st January 2005 will be subject to full penalties, interest, interest, additional tax or fines.

Once again, THANK YOU very much to all those whose enquiries, advice, and participation in whatever form contributed to the success of the TAX AMNESTY and improvement of tax compliance in our country.
