NOTICE TO ALL REGISTERED IMPORTERS OF RAW/MILL WHITE AND REFINED WHITE SUGAR ORIGINATING FROM THE COMESA REGION FOR THE PERIOD 2006
 
 

 

All registered importers of raw/mill sugar and refined sugar intending to import duty free sugar from the COMESA region are hereby advised to take note of the following.

This notice is issued pursuant to Legal Notice No. 12 of 2004, Legal Notice No. 2 of 2006 and Gazette Notice No. 615 of 2006.

The importation of sugar shall be on a competitive, Liberalised and non-discriminatory basis subject to a limit of 89,000 metric Tones for Raw/Mill white sugar and 111,000 metric Tones in respect of Refined white sugar, above which 100% duty shall be payable.

Clearing process of Sugar consignment, shall only be done subject to physical confirmation of the arrival and presence of the sugar at the port of Mombasa or any other designated port.

The physical confirmation shall be done jointly by personnel from the Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya sugar Board.

All importers shall hereby advised to adhere to the quality standards of the imports as set out by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)

Importers shall meet all costs of non-compliance with KEBS requirements.

Wrong declaration of the category of sugar shall be panalised and the Duty Free facility withdrawn from the importer.

Kenya Sugar Board and Kenya Revenue Authority shall endeavour to ensure that the importation process is smooth and expeditious.
