Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) wish to draw the attention of individuals, and corporate entities, who are currently in possession of motor vehicles, which cannot be locally registered because they do not meet the requirements of the Kenya Standard KS 1515:2000 – Code of Practice for Inspection of Road Vehicles.
The specific requirements of the standard, which may not allow registration of the vehicles for use in Kenya, are as follows: -
- The motor vehicles are more than eight years old.
- The motor vehicles are left hand drive.
- The motor vehicles are not roadworthy.
Recognising that the owners of these motor vehicles are desirous of having them registered, KRA and KEBS have set up a Joint Task Force to review cases where the affected units are already in the country. The Task Force shall receive and review each application according to its merit.
All affected persons should apply for consideration in the application form provided for in the KRA Website, all KRA, KEBS, and ministry of Trade and Industry offices. This exercise covers only motor vehicles that were imported on or before 19th November 2006.
Applications should be submitted in sealed envelopes marked ‘Task Force on Unregistered Motor Vehicles’ before close of business on 4th December 2006 to: -
