The Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority Mr. Michael Waweru has strongly recommended taxation of the entire emoluments of members of Parliament to ensure equity in tax treatment of all Kenyans.  In addition, he recommended tax compliance as a prerequisite for election or appointments to public office.  Mr. Waweru made these recommendations when he appeared before the Akiwumi Commission on Taxation of Members of Parliament on Monday the 31st March 2009.  Conceding that taxation is perceived to be a ‘nuisance and painful to everyone’, the Commissioner General said that paying taxes is not optional.
